FOREIGN TOURISTS are rushing to catch a ferry from Koh Samui to Koh Phangan to attend the world famous Full Moon Party at the latter’s Haad Rin beach tonight (Feb. 5) with the total number of revellers expected to reach 50,000, Matichon newspaper said.
At 11.30 a.m. Lomprayah High Speed Ferries Co. Ltd.’s wharf at Koh Samui’s Nathon pier was packed with foreign tourists waiting to get across to Koh Phangan. The company had to add extra ferries to accommodate the demand.
A police team was guarding the pier to ensure the safety of the tourists.
Koh Phangan’s Full Moon Party held on a monthly basis is a very popular event with tourists from across the world travelling here to attend it.
After the relaxation of travel restrictions the number of Full Moon revellers has steadily increased with this leading to hotels, restaurants and shops on Koh Phangan gaining more income.
Mr. Phupha Meepian, Lomprayah’s Nathon Pier branch manager, said tourism is now again bustling.
He observed that the number of tourists travelling from Koh Samui to Koh Phangan and Koh Tao and back has spiked this month and around 50,000 merrymakers will likely attend tonight’s Full Moon Party.
