A LONE MAN launched a surprise physical attack on Progressive Movement leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit at a crowded hall in Bangkok today (Oct 23).
Thanathorn was mingling with visitors to a book fair on its final day at Sirikit International Convention Centre when the male assailant, identified as Kanetpitsanuthep Jakkapopmahadeja alias Kay Roy Larn, scrambled toward him and firmly put his arm around his neck.
Wresting his arm around Thanathorn’s neck, the assailant said he was carrying a bomb, scaring away many visitors.
However, Thanathorn quickly managed to free himself of the grips of the assailant who was overpowered and forced down onto the floor by people at the scene and finally arrested by police.
The Progressive Movement leader who was reportedly safe after the surprise attack confirmed that he will take legal action against his assailant, reportedly known as an eccentric person doing a real estate business.
Thanathorn used to head the dissolved Future Forward Party which was practically renamed as the Move Forward Party and is currently banned from the political arena for 10 years beginning in 2020.
