FORMER national police chief Pol. Gen. Sereepisuth Temeiwes, who is the leader of Seri Ruam Thai Party, said Mr. Srisuwan Chanya, secretary-general of the Association for the Protection of the Thai Constitution, being punched and kicked yesterday (Oct. 18) should be considered an attempt to teach him a lesson as it would come under the category of violence if a stick, knife or pistol had been used, Sanook.com said.
Mr. Weerawit Rungruengsiriphon, or Uncle Sak, 62, punched up Srisuwan just as he was going to file a complaint against stand-up comedian Mr. Udom Taepanich, whose stage name is Nose, for allegedly mocking the government.
However Sereepisuth pointed out that Srisuwan regularly files complaints against other people and even he himself had been so hit.
As he sees it, Srisuwan is doing this regularly because he wants to be in the news and famous.
He added that if details are studied they will show that Srisuwan had claimed benefits from these complaints but no money was submitted to the association.
He clarified that filing a complaint is not counted as a case, a case starts when police begin investigating and gathering evidence then filing a lawsuit.
There is nothing wrong with Srisuwan filing complaints but people have to watch out because they can be prosecuted for making false claims.
Some people just shrug off filing complaints but others dwell on it with this leading to a fight, Sereepisuth said, then asking how one would measure violence.
“Teaching a lesson is what you saw, go punch him, but society does not understand and sometimes question whether people should resort to violence.
“But what is the standard of violence and what is it in the first place? To me this was just a punch-up not violence, just teaching him a lesson.
“If it is violence that knife, stick, pistol and other weapons are used. But then people have different standards,” he said.
Asked about his push to get this association dissolved, Sereepisuth said this issue is pending at the Interior Ministry’s Provincial Administration Department. However he has not asked about the delay.
