Songkran reveller beaten to death by 10 teenagers

A YOUNG Thai man who was celebrating Songkran with wife in Nong Khai province died in the hospital after being severely punched up by a group of 10 teenagers for simply having bumped into a girl with the beating continuing even after he apologised, TV Channel 7 and PPTVHD36 said today (April 16).

This incident is going viral on Thai social media with police having arrested all except one of the suspects.

The brawl broke out at 9 p.m. last night on Prachak Silpakom road in the city district, with the victim, Mr. Yosawat (surname withheld), or Safe, 26, and his wife Ms. Pluem having driven a pickup truck from Udon Thani to the neighbouring province to celebrate Songkran there as they had done in previous years.

However, this year instead of celebrating at festive tents they decided to drive around the city after picking Pluem’s friends.

When they reached this area, as there was a heavy traffic jam, Yosawat got out of the vehicle to help direct the flow, letting his sister drive instead.

However, it seems he bumped into a girl with this sparking a row with the 10 teenagers who continued assaulting him despite his apology. He later died from a brain hemorrhage and sepsis at the hospital.

His grieving wife told police in tears that they had only been married for a year and had one child and were about to celebrate their wedding anniversary when her husband suddenly died due to the row with this group of teenagers.

Nong Khai City police are currently interrogating the arrested suspects while chasing the one still at large.
