Veerayooth tipped to replace Nattapong as People’s leader

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

VEERAYOOTH KANCHOOCHAT will likely be named leader of the People’s in a planned reshuffle of the reformist party’s rank and file whilst current People’s leader Nattapong Ruengpanyawut is largely speculated to be instead named secretary-general of the largest opposition party later this month. a partisan source confirmed today (April 15).

During the People’s general caucus which will be yet scheduled for later this month, Veerayooth who currently acts as deputy leader of the party is largely expected to be named top party leader to replace Nattapong who might probably be named secretary-general of the party in lieu of Sarayuth Jailuk personally close to party founder Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit who currently holds onto the post.

Meanwhile, a few other prominent People’s MPs such as the likes of Parit Wacharasindhu and Rukchanok Srinork might probably be named member of the reformist party’s executive board in the upcoming general caucus following their upsetting defeat to the ultra-conservative Bhumjaithai surreptitiously steered by de facto party boss Newin Chidchob in the Feb.8 nationwide election.

Sirikanya Tansakun, Nattapong and Veerayooth had unsuccessfully run as a trio of People’s contestants for head of government which was eventually won by Bhumjaithai leader/Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.

Nevertheless, Nattapong and Sirikanya, both currently performing as People’s MPs, would probably be ordered by the Supreme Court to immediately stop doing their legislative duties pending a court ruling on a lese majeste lawsuit filed by the National Anti-Corruption Commission against 44 current and former reformist lawmakers if it is formally accepted by court at any given time.

A total of 10 People’s MPs including Nattapong and Sirikanya plus 34 former MPs of the court-dissolved Move Forward including ex-Move Forward leader Pita Limjaroenrat have been earlier charged by the anti-graft agency for their being proponents for legislation to amend the draconian lese majeste law, also known as Section 112 of the Criminal Code, in regard to the monarchy.

The other People’s MPs who would probably be suspended by court from performing at parliament include Pakornwut Udompipatsakun, Rangsiman Rome, Surachet Pravinvongvuth and Wayo Asavarungruang, among others.
