BANGKOK Metropolitan Administration (BMA) this evening (Sept. 8) alerted people living along Klong Prem Prachakorn canal to move their belongings to higher areas and be careful about electricity, Matichon newspaper said.
BMA also notified people to avoid Chaeng Wattana road and Lak Si area as floodwater has reached footpath level.
At the same time the Thai Meteorological Department warned that 38 provinces including Bangkok and its vicinity will be hit by heavy to very heavy rain tomorrow.
This is due to a low pressure cell in the eastern region and the lower Northeast. In addition the relatively strong southwesterly monsoon prevails over the Andaman sea, the South and the Gulf of Thailand.
This leads to the Northeast, Central region including Bangkok and its vicinity, the East and the South being hit with heavy to very heavy rain that may cause flash floods.
Meanwhile the army has increased the number of large trucks transporting commuters in Bangkok and surrounding areas amid ongoing torrential rain, TV Channel 7 said.
Some of these large army trucks had already since yesterday helped people commute to and from work in Lak Si, Bang Khen, Phahon Yothin and Chaeng Wattana roads plus Pak Kret and Muang Thong Thani in Nonthaburi.
However the army expanded this service to five more districts this evening, taking the total to 16, with these being Din Daeng, Saphan Sung, Chom Thong, Khlong Toei, Phra Khanong, Wattana, Sathorn, Bang Bon, Bang Khae, Min Buri, Bueng Kum, Wang Thonglang, Laksi, Bang Khen, Sai Mai and Don Mueang.
