33 hurt and 28 arrested during clashes last night

THE clashes between protesters and police at Sanam Luang last night (March 20) led to 33 people being injured, among them 13 policemen, and the arrest of 28 suspects, Thai Rath newspaper said this morning.

Among the 28 suspects arrested were two teenagers, one 14 years old the other 15, and they were all taken to the Border Patrol Police Region 1 headquarters for detention.

Those injured were admitted to various hospitals as follows:

– Klang Hospital: 11 cases;

– Vachira Hospital: seven cases (two policemen, five civilians);

– Siriraj Hospital: two cases;

– Police Hospital: 12 cases ( 11 policemen, one civilian);

– Lerdsin Hospital: one case.

The arrest of the two teenagers triggered a Twitter campaign today under hashtags #saveปูน #saveโป๊ยเซียน #saveเสกจิ๋ว

Later Mr. Chaitawat Tulthana, secretary-general of Kao Klai party, posted a Twitter message saying that of the 28 suspects detained at Border Patrol Police Region 1 headquarters last night, 10 had been released after being fined. The rest have to go and apply for bail in court tomorrow morning.

The two teenagers, 14 and 15 years old, have been charged with violating Section 112 of the Criminal  Code, known as the lese majeste law, and are the youngest to be so charged, were released this morning but will have to go to the Juvenile Court tomorrow.
