THE Thai SME Federation asked the government to consider implementing five measures to ensure assistance reaches 2.75 million micro-enterprises at a key meeting on Friday (May 15) when Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and some ministers discussed economic issues with tycoons and CEOs of large companies, PPTVHD36 said today (May 17).
Mr. Noppong Teeravorn, the federation’s president, said this body represents Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and in presenting the five measures emphasised that policies using the general term “SME” risk failing to reach the 2.75 million micro-enterprises.
Measures aimed at assisting these businesses must be tailored to the size of MSMEs, he emphasised.
They are categorised as follows:
– Micro-enterprises: those with annual sales not exceeding 1.8 million baht (approximately 2.75 million businesses);
– Small-enterprises: those with annual sales not exceeding 100 million baht in manufacturing and 50 million baht in trade and services (approximately 420,000 businesses);
– Medium-enterprises: those with annual sales not exceeding 500 million baht in manufacturing and 300 million baht in trade and services (approximately 65,000 businesses).
The proposed measures include:
– Stimulating purchasing power and consumer spending to generate sales that spread across all MSME groups;
– Loans for micro and small enterprises must be separate from loans for SMEs;
– Manage household and trade debts;
– Implement regulations that would give MSMEs an advantage in competing with multinational corporations;
– Promote and support MSMEs’ easy access to essential AI and technology
