PRIME Minister Anutin Charnvirakul today (April 21) said representatives from three key private sector institutions will be invited to join the economic cabinet meeting held on Mondays with the one they will first participate in scheduled for next Monday (April 27) with various issues to be discussed including economic stimulus measures and policies to be tabled to parliament, Naewna newspaper and PPTVHD36 said.
The three institutions are Thai Bankers Association, Thai Chamber of Commerce, and Federation of Thai Industries
Asked whether this specifically concerns the “Thai Help Thai Plus” project, Anutin confirmed that this is so, replying “Yes, the ‘Thai Help Thai Plus’ programme.”
Under this project the public and private sectors are joining hands to offer discounts of up to 58 percent on many consumer products to help ease the cost of living for the people during the ongoing crisis in the Middle East and oil price increases.
When asked about an increase in Value Added Tax, Anutin acknowledged the question but did not answer.
Further questioned about possibly issuing an emergency decree to borrow 500 billion baht, Anutin replied, “We will discuss it later. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Mr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, will give a clarification as he has all the information.
“In principle, anything that is beneficial and can stimulate the economy, leading to money flowing into the system and reaching the people for use in meeting their expenses, the government intends to carry it out for them.”
Anutin also mentioned that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will be paying an official visit to Thailand at the end of this month with discussions to centre on two key issues.
The first dwells on matters of mutual understanding while the second is about requesting China to consider increasing purchases of agricultural products, including rice and fruits, as well as increasing investment and technological support.
