TOURIST Police are gearing up to install multilingual signs prohibiting nude sunbathing at a secluded beach in Phuket’s Rawai subdistrict after netizens drew attention to tourists doing so at this spot, Amarin TV said today (Mar. 6).
Pol. Lt. Col. Ekachai Siri, chief of Tourist Police Station 1, Division 2, ordered patrol officers to join Rawai Municipality Mayor Mr. Thamet Kraithat in investigating whether tourists were nude sunbathing at this beach which is approximately 100 metres long and relatively quiet being around 200 metres from the road.
At the time of the incident, there were approximately 20 tourists swimming there.
Police have now increased patrols at beaches and tourist areas while Rawai municipality, as the landowner, is installing multilingual signs clearly informing tourists about regulations governing use of public space and what all are prohibited.
Embassies, consulates, hotels, tour companies and operators have been contacted to help disseminate information about prohibited actions and appropriate guidelines for tourists to follow while in Thailand.
