AN AMERICAN man was fatally beaten by four Myanmar men in Chom Thong district of Bangkok last evening (Feb. 16) after harassing them for a month to get his former girlfriend to return to him, Amarin TV said.
This television station’s news team interviewed one of the eyewitnesses, who is the boss of three of the suspects, who said that the unidentified American man, who lived in the same apartment building as the suspects, had been harassing them for around a month in attempting to win back his ex-girlfriend, who is the sister of one of the suspects.
The standoff escalated the previous night when the victim, armed with a knife, allegedly barged into the suspects’ apartment but did not find his ex-girlfriend who had temporarily moved elsewhere.
The employer added that he heard of the incident in the morning so asked his mother to take the Myanmar men to file a police report.
However later after they returned to his second-hand goods shop the victim again approached them with a knife with one of his employees then grabbing an iron pipe and went out even though he tried to stop him with the situation then escalating.
Meanwhile, another resident said that over the past month, the deceased had been harassing the suspects in their apartment as he had heard screams and shouting.
Regarding the deceased, this resident said he had lived in this building for many years and often walked his dog in the evenings.
Pol. Col. Sonchai Poolphol, the superintendent of Bang Mod police station, said that the entire incident stemmed from a love triangle with the deceased having previously dated the sister of one of the suspects, but they had broken up. The deceased had been trying to win back his ex-girlfriend, even though she insisted she would never return to him.
During the incident, it was learned that the deceased was wielding a knife and attempted to cause trouble. Upon seeing this, the suspects quickly grabbed iron pipes and attacked him. During initial questioning, the suspects claimed they did not intend to kill him, but due to the chaos, they accidentally did so.
