Recount of votes in all five constituencies of Supanburi demanded

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

A RECOUNT of votes in all five constituencies of Supanburi was today (Feb.10) demanded amidst allegations of electoral rigging and irregularities.

The People’s called on the Election Commission to have all five constituencies of the central province recounted after four Bhumjaithai candidates and one Klatham contestant had reportedly swept victories for MP seats in Sunday’s election.

Former Chart Thai Pattana leader Varawut Silpa-archa had led defection of 10 ex-MPs of the same party including himself to the Bhumjaithai to seek re-election in constituency-based mode under their new camp, currently core of the caretaker government.

Supanburi had been earlier known as the largest stronghold of the now-deserted Chart Thai Pattana and the home province of the late prime minister Banharn Silpa-archa, father of Varawut’s.

Also petitioned to the polling agency in pursuit of a recount of votes were a dozen other constituencies where electoral rigging and irregularities were evidently suspected including two constituencies in Nakhon Ratchasima, one in Chiang Mai and one in Chonburi, among others.

In Constituency 1 of the eastern province, a recount of votes was strongly insisted by the People’s after Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Natural Resources & Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin who ran under the Bhumjaithai tickets to seek re-election defeated the contender of the reformist camp by about 3,800 votes.
