AN EXPLOSION that damaged a railroad switch at Maruebo station in Narathiwat province early this morning (Oct. 27) has disrupted services to and from Bangkok and the three Far South provinces, TV Channel 7 said today (Oct. 27).
The blast, which went off at 6.33 a.m., also injured two persons.
With upstream and downstream train services from Bangkok to Su-ngai Kolok station, Narathiwat, disrupted as trains have to stop at Yala station, officials are now expediting the transfer of passengers stranded at Maruebo station onto buses to continue their journey.
Officials are conducting a thorough inspection and clearing of the area, although fortunately the tracks were not damaged.
Mr. Thada Boonmuang, Yala railway station’s master, said the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has prepared a backup plan to transport passengers from this station to the various others according to their tickets. It is expected that train services will quickly resume once security forces have cleared the area.
As for other trains running to the lower southern region, SRT is currently assessing the situation in collaboration with security agencies and will announce additional plans to the public as soon as possible.
