CELLPHONE USERS, mostly adolescents, have been alerted today (Jan.21) to not get ripped off unawares whilst playing a coin hunt game anywhere.
A large number of cellphone users have already been tempted since last week to register an Indonesia-based Jagat app which reportedly offers cash awards for those who may successfully hunt for hidden Jagat coins at varied spots, public and private, at their own risk, police said.
Gamers may pay varied sums of money online in exchange for tip-offs to the detailed whereabouts of the hidden coins with hopes of discovering one, identifying its numeral and code inscribed on the back of the coin and waiting a few days for a cash award.
Awards for the retrieval of the coins saying Jagat – Friends By Your Side and featuring a plastic cup and a straw amount to a range of 500 to 2,000 baht in cash for a bronze coin, 20,000 baht for a silver coin and 200,000 baht for a gold coin.
Jagat coins may be hidden at any possible spots, either public or private, in Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, the police said.
Nevertheless, the coin hunt gamers could probably jeopardise their bank accounts and unknowingly have any amount of their money withdrawn from their online wallets due to their uses of the Jagat app to play the coin hunt game whilst their locations and other personal data stored online could be unsuspectingly unveiled to others at any given moment, the police said.
