A DETAILED forensic examination of the belongings of six Vietnamese, two of them American nationals, who died in murder-suicide at a downtown luxury hotel last week revealed traces of cyanide in one of the suitcases, TV Channel 7 said this morning (July 25).
Forensic test results of more than 70 items have just been released and they also show that there were no fingerprints of outsiders in the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel room where they were found dead on July 16, 2024.
Police had earlier concluded that six of them were poisoned by a woman in the group who died along with them over 10 million baht investment not yielding returns, Thai Rath and Naewna newspapers said.
Pol. Maj. Gen.Noppasil Poolsawat, deputy commander of Metropolitan Police Bureau, said investigation revealed that cyanide was mixed in tea they consumed with the residue of this poison found in the six cups.
Hotel staff said that tea was taken to the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel room and when they were going to prepare it for all six of them to drink a woman in the group said they would themselves do so.
Initially the cause was believed to stem from an investment of 10 million baht for which no returns had been given amid demands for return.
Investigation also revealed that “snake medicine No. 7” which Ms. Thi Nguyen Phuong Lan, 47, had asked her guide, Mr. Phan Ngoc Vu, 35, to buy for her is a Thai supplement and not a poison as had been suspected.
