Nigerian held for using ‘influence’ to get free food, room on Koh Phangan

 

AN OVERSTAYING Nigerian man was arrested on Koh Phangan after residents complained that he was going around asking for free food and accommodation by claiming to be an influential person in his homeland, Naewna newspaper said this morning (June 1).

At 7 p.m. last night Pol. Lt. Col. Vinij Bunchit, from Tourist Police Division 5, led a team accompanied by Mr. Naphadol Khaomali, Koh Phangan sub-district chief, to investigate the allegations and when found that they held up moved to arrest Mr. Benjamin Chemelia Ene, 35, from Nigeria.

Upon seeing the Tourist Police patrol car he became agitated and tried to run away by entering a nearby hotel.

After being arrested and brought to Koh Phangan police station where the suspect was found to have overstayed for 276 days he confessed to all the charges.
