FORMER prime minister Anand Panyarachun advised Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin that in helping poor people in the provinces he should not forget that Bangkok’s slum communities too need help, Matichon newspaper said this evening (March 1).
Srettha told reporters at the Office of the Chularatchamontri that earlier in the day he met Anand at a merit-making ceremony for his late wife M.R. Sodsri Panyarachun and they discussed various issues including geopolitics and the escalating rivalry between the United States and China.
At one point Anand mentioned that while Srettha had surveyed the poverty of people in the provinces and even inspected the condition of police and military flats, he should not forget to look at Bangkok’s slum communities too.
Srettha, who just returned from a three-day visit to three southernmost provinces Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani, said he does not have the time to do so right away but would get down it after returning from overseas trips.
He is scheduled to visit Australia during March 4-6 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Asean-Australia relations and hold talks with the private sector about investing in Thailand.
After that he will be visiting France and Germany from March 7 to 13 for meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and likewise hold talks with the private sector in the two countries.
