ARRESTED today (March 1) on charges of swindling a party-list MP candidate out 20 million baht before last May election was the former legal adviser of Mrs. Panida Siriyuttayothin, the mother of late actress Pataratida Patcharawirapong, or Tangmo Nida, who drowned in Chao Phraya river during a speedboat trip in February 2022, Amarin TV said.
Lumpini police charged Mr. Chaiwat Lomakul with joining two accomplices in swindling others, defaming others by advertising and spreading fake information online.
Police said the three of them had deceived a party-list MP candidate of Seri Ruam Thai camp that the 20th slot on Pheu Thai’s roll of party-list MP candidates was still vacant and he could be selected for payment of 40 million baht.
They convinced the victim to resign as Seri Ruam Thai’s party-list MP candidate to apply for the slot on Pheu Thai’s party list.
On March 30, 2023 the suspects and the victim met at a hotel in Pathumwan District. After the victim had paid 20 million baht the suspects took him to Pheu Thai headquarters where his photo was taken and he applied to become this party’s party-list MP candidate, police said.
They then brought him back to this hotel to pay the remaining 20 million baht to Pheu Thai leader/de facto boss Thaksin Shinawatra’s daughter Paetongtarn Shinawatra but when she did not show up, it was not handed over.
When Pheu Thai announced its party-list MP candidates and Chaiwat’s name was not on it, the victim realised he had been swindled after which he filed a police report.
When Paetongtarn found out that the key suspect had pretended to be her adviser and created fake photos to deceive him she too filed a complaint for legal action against him.
However Chaiwat has during initial interrogation denied the charges but today was taken to Southern Bangkok Criminal Court to apply for initial 12-day detention.
