Patcharawat grilled over repeated absence from weekly House meeting

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

NATURAL RESOURCES & ENVIRONMENT Minister Patcharawat Wongsuwan was yesterday (Feb 29) grilled on the House floor for his repeated failure to attend a weekly interpellation at parliament.

During yesterday’s House interpellation session, Move Forward MP Chutipong Pipoppinyo produced a poster featuring a portrait of the natural resources & environment minister with words saying “Wanted – Only Alive” to sardonically grill the Palang Pracharath cabinet member virtually as a criminal of sorts for his repeated absence from the weekly House meeting where he could have otherwise responded to inquiries about his dutiful performance.

Yesterday was the fourth time in a row that Patcharawat has failed to attend whilst the Move Forward lawmaker was evidently frustrated with a long-delayed, unresolved issue pertaining to the sought-after containment of wild elephants, especially those roaming in wooded areas of the eastern region, which, he confirmed, could practically hold the Palang Pracharath minister accountable.

Hundreds of humans and elephants have been so far reportedly killed due to the authorities’ alleged failure to contain the stray, stomping wild animals in the woods and surrounding villages, the opposition MP said.

Ironically, Chutipong pointed out, the allegedly poorly-performing minister is brother of Palang Pracharath leader Prawit Wongsuwan who concurrently chairs the Five Provinces Bordering Forest Preservation Foundation purportedly not only interested in forest reserves but wildlife.

Nevertheless, Patcharawat is largely speculated to be removed from the Pheu Thai-led cabinet of ministers in the foreseeable future and probably be replaced by his brother, albeit for a different portfolio.
