Foreigner in hot water over villa staircase row

AFTER a female doctor filed a complaint in Phuket of being attacked by a foreign man, later identified as having come from Switzerland, while watching the moon as she sat on his villa staircase leading to a beach, officials checked this staircase and found that only the first step is private property not the following three steps, Naewna and TV Channel 7 said today (Feb. 29).

The unidentified female doctor also complained that the unnamed Swiss man’s wife had also said that she could get away with shooting  her to death because her son is a police officer and well connected to high-ranking officers.

The Swiss man later came with a lawyer to explain that he did not kick the doctor and that it was an accident as he stumbled on the stairs and fell with his foot landing on her back.

He apologised for this incident which he said was not a big deal.

However Mr. Sorayut Suthatsanachinda, a news worker, said in a Facebook post that officials went to inspect this staircase and ordered it dismantled within three days as it encroaches on a public area.

A Facebook user identified as “Drama Addict” said the first step, marked in blue, is within the villa compound but the second to the fourth steps are in a public area and the doctor was sitting on the lower step.

As the doctor was attacked in a public area officials are taking legal action against the villa owner who has been ordered to immediately dismantle the staircase, he added.

Mr. Suwat Saowaran, head of National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) office in Phuket, told TV Channel 7 that his team is checking this incident to find out if there are any issues that should be investigated.

It has to be determined whether the villa staircase encroaches on public land with the NACC office having received information that the Swiss man is linked to an elephant camp in Phuket.

While no complaints have been received about the financial route, as this incident has arisen the NACC office will be carrying out a full investigation, he added.
