Swiss man admits killing missing Thai wife: Police

A SWISS man who is the second husband of a Thai woman who inherited 13 million baht from her first Swiss husband upon his death in 2021 and has been missing since Jan. 8 has now confessed to having killed her, Amarin TV said this afternoon (Jan. 29).

Police at Chaliang subdistrict, Khon Buri district, Nakhon Ratchasima province, again questioned the suspect, only identified as Mr. Roland, and later said he confessed to having strangled his wife, Ms. Orathai Posingam, 46, to death during a fierce quarrel, carrying her body on a motorcycle and dumping it in a cornfield around 6km from their home.

She had gone missing the same night they had quarrelled at their home in this northeastern province where they had moved to two years ago.

There has been a big search for her with a scuba diving team from  Buddhatham 31 Foundation searching a pond next to the village temple yesterday but did not find her body nor anything suspicious related to her disappearance.

The suspect had not come to witness the search as he has been mostly staying home only coming out to drink coffee or have a meal and meet the police.

He was summoned for another round of questioning today after police uncovered something suspicious with Orathai’s younger sister having told police that while her husband said she could have run away on her own but if that was the case why did she leave her shoes and clothes behind.

A radio show host who is one of Roland’s few close friends had told reporters that the 53-year-old former Swiss train driver and his deceased wife would come to drink coffee at a shop in Khon Buri every morning.

He added that he met Roland through his younger brother who previously lived in Khon Buri for many years and they often got together to drink coffee in the morning.

After his wife disappeared Roland told him that he was worried because residents in this area suspect him.

“However he mentioned that his wife disappeared for personal reasons and this was not linked to him. Even though they had previously argued over her taking money to gamble, he confirmed that she ran away herself and would soon return on her own because he did not believe she was dead and that she could be escaping from someone over a gambling loss,” he said.
