THE eighth grade student of a well-known secondary school in Pattanakarn Soi 26 area who fatally stabbed a fellow student of the same grade but studying in a different classroom this morning (Jan. 29) had been bullied continuously for two weeks, a senior Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) official said this afternoon, according to Matichon newspaper.
At 8.37 a.m. the bullied student used a fruit knife to stab the deceased student twice in the abdomen and neck. Poh Teck Tung Foundation administered first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and rushed him to Vibharam Hospital but he later died there.
Dr. Wanthanee Watthana, BMA’s permanent secretary, said preliminary investigation of the stabbing at this school which is under the city administration’s jurisdiction showed that the student who stabbed his schoolmate was stressed out after being badly bullied for two whole weeks.
However investigation is still continuing, she said, adding that teachers said the attacking student had a short attention span and was hyperactive.
He was asked to come to Khlong Tan Police Station together with his parents to be questioned and it is still to be ascertained whether he is a special needs student as had been earlier mentioned as a medical certificate is needed to categorise him as such.
BMA is concerned about the impact of this violence on students and others who were involved and has sent psychologists to counsel them.
Mr. Panumas Sukamporn, an adviser to Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, said the city administration is in the process of training teachers at schools under its jurisdiction on suitably taking care of special needs students with this gradually ending from the middle to the end of this year.
