Pita warns govt of censure debate early next year

MOVE FORWARD ADVISER Pita Limjaroenrat warned the government that his party will file a no-confidence motion early next year if clear answers are not given during the current fiscal 2024 budget bill deliberation in Parliament, Thai Rath newspaper said this afternoon (Dec. 15).

Move Forward leader Chaithawat Tulathon will be filing this censure motion either in first or second quarter of the new year depending on the Pheu Thai-led coalition government’s clarification of issues raised in deliberating the 3.48 trillion baht budget bill, he said, adding that his party has also put together an important agenda to follow up other issues.

Pita analysed the Prime Minister Sretttha Thavisin’s coalition government’s performance the first 100 days in office, pointing out that this is important because it indicates whether promises made to the people will be kept and its administrative roadmap.

The five points he raised are as follows:

–  Well thought out and done well: Pita praised the government for adeptly getting Hamas to release Thai hostages, administering 1 million doses of HPV vaccine to prevent cervical cancer and working on reducing both illicit and licit debts a large number of people are saddled with.

– Going back and forth: Pita pointed to flip-flopping on the source of money for the digital wallet project, pay rise for civil servant and the mega land bridge project in the South linking Chumphon on the Gulf of Thailand coast with Ranong on the Andaman Sea coast with a road and rail system that will speed up transport of goods from the port on either side.

– Short-sighted: Pita drew attention to slashing the electricity rate which after a reduction to 3.99 baht a unit in October is again going up in January,  diesel prices cut below 30 baht  per litre from Sept. 20 until the end of the year, and 20 baht flat-rate train fare for MRT Purple Line and State Railway of Thailand Red Line.

–  Think big act small: Shortcomings were found in boosting national administrative ability, propelling soft power, implementing visa-free entry policy and reducing inequality within the country.

– Think one way but act another: The government was taken to task on implementing the promised reform of the military-drafted constitution and implementing military reform.
