Chaikasem to be named Pheu Thai candidate for PM again

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

CHAIKASEM NITISIRI will likely be named a third Pheu Thai partisan contender running in the May 14 general election for prime minister again – the title given him in such a nationwide race four years earlier.

Chaikasem, head of the Pheu Thai strategic and political directions committee, told reporters today (Mar.30) that he will certainly accept the naming of him as one of a trio of partisan candidates for prime minister in addition to Paetongtarn Shinawatra, daughter of de facto Pheu Thai boss/deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, and real estate tycoon Settha Taweesin.

The Pheu Thai executive board is scheduled for April 4 to formally name the Pheu Thai trio vying for head of a post-election government.

In the 2019 election, Chaikasem, a former attorney-general and former justice minister, was among a trio of Pheu Thai contestants for prime minister, including Thai Sang Thai leader Sudarat Keyurapan and Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt.

Like in the previous election, none of the Pheu Thai trio contesting the May 14 race would likely be ranked as No.1 though Paetongtarn is largely viewed as the first choice, given the fact that she is the most entrusted by the party boss.
