THAI LIBERAL LEADER Seripisut Temiyavej today (Feb.18) offered to jump onto a bandwagon steered by the Palang Pracharath and pick the ruling party’s boss Prawit Wongsuwan for prime minister after an upcoming general election.
Seripisut said he could probably come to terms with Prawit who is contesting the nationwide election as the sole partisan contestant for prime minister because, the Thai Liberal leader said, the Palang Pracharath boss was not practically involved in the 2014 coup staged by army chief-turned-premier Prayut Chan-o-cha.
Prawit who had managed to name Prayut as Palang Pracharath partisan candidate for prime minister after the 2019 election is more or less speculated to talk the Pheu Thai and Thai Liberal among others into joining a post-election coalition with his own camp as its core.
According to Seripisut, the Thai Liberal would rather agree to join the Palang Pracharath-led coalition alongside the Pheu Thai, steered by de facto party boss Thaksin Shinawatra, among others.
Nevertheless, the Thai Liberal would certainly decline to join a post-election coalition if the Ruam Thai Sang Chart was included, Seripisut said.
Prayut, who is looking to retain power for two more years, is also contesting the general election under the Ruam Thai Sang Chart tickets.
Seripisut said he doubted that half the total of 250 senators would finally cast yea votes in support of Prayut rather than Prawit for the top post of government.
