‘Big Joke’ : Case against grey capitalist suspect to be closed in 3 weeks

 

ON THE surrender of Chinese businessman Mr. Chaiyanat Kornchaiyanana, alias Tu Hao, to fight drug charges and who is allegedly a grey capitalist Deputy National Police Chief Pol. Lt. Gen. Surachate Hakparn, whose nickname is Big Joke, said today (Nov. 24) that the suspect continues to deny all charges and insists on only testifying in court but police have clear evidence against him and will wrap up the case within three weeks, Naewna newspaper said.

He added that there is no need to summon former ministers or politicians for questioning but if any are seen to be guilty after gathering evidence arrest warrants will be immediately issued.

Chaiyanat is today being taken for judicial custody at the Southern Bangkok Criminal Court with police objecting to granting him bail.

An investigation will be carried out on Chaiyanat’s financial route and his entire network with his assets to be seized and this will be accelerated and completed within three weeks, he said.

All the details will be presented to the public and investigation expanded to larger grey capitalists, he added.

On Chaiyanat’s alleged links to former ministers and persons involved with political parties evidence will be gathered and facts clarified , he said, adding that no one will be called in for interrogation but if seen guilty arrest warrants will be immediately issued.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Surachate also revealed that many police officers were found to be involved in this case and so far among them are two Yannawa Metropolitan policemen, one Ladprao Metropolitan policeman and six deputy Metropolitan Police commanders.

A letter had been sent to the Commander of Metropolitan Police to acknowledge the allegations of neglecting to perform duties under Section 157 for allegedly getting benefits in wrongfully releasing the suspect’s car.

This car was involved in a drug case and whether the person who paid a bribe to get it released was Chaiyanat’s nephew or not cannot yet be disclosed, he added.

As for Chaiyanat’s wife who is a police officer, Pol. Lt. Gen. Surachate said she too will be called in for questioning as to whether she is linked to her husband’s money and property and if found guilty will be prosecuted.

However he insisted that police will be fair to both parties.

Immigration policemen will also be questioned over issuing student visas to some foreigners with each of them being over 50 years old.

Regarding Mrs. Patcharin, who former MP Chuvit Kamonvisit sent word that is another wife of Chaiyanat, Pol. Lt. Gen. Surachate said he does not know the details of their relationship with all that is verified up to this point being that the suspect is lawfully married to the police colonel.

Investigation is continuing into Chinese people who have illegally come to do business in Thailand with those caught doing so to be deported to China and police are coordinating with the Chinese authorities on this case, he added.
