DEPUTY National Police Chief Pol. Lt. Gen. Surachate Hakparn, whose nickname is Big Joke, this afternoon (Nov. 13) said all Chinese grey capitalists who run shady nominee businesses and hold dual nationalities will be rounded up within the next two to three weeks, Matichon newspaper said.
Speaking prior to a meeting of a working group at the Police Club, Pol. Lt. Gen. Surachate said attending the talks are Pol. Maj. Gen. Pananchai Cheunchaitham, deputy chief of Region 1 Provincial Police, police investigators and officers from the Metropolitan Police Bureau.
He explained that not all Chinese people are criminals but mostly the grey capitalist groups, who hold dual nationalities as opposed to a single one because they do not intend to return to their homeland, have been carrying out criminal activities.
He has also consulted the Chinese ambassador about this crackdown.
At today’s meeting information about the criminals’ financial routes and their connections will be compiled. There will be more clarity and all suspects, including those involved in drug trafficking, will be arrested within two to three weeks.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Surachate added that if they are in Thailand they will be arrested and also being apprehended are Thais who help them. Should they have fled overseas, a global Interpol red alert will be issued for them.
The latest police action was to search 30 places after getting warrants to do so. Among them were condos and buildings with some of the suspects having purchased the entire floor of a condo.
Also being traced are the Thai nominee owners of various cars and firearms to get details about the suspects.
“Police have to meticulously collect evidence especially about these Chinese capitalist groups who are financially strong. We have to carefully prosecute because fighting the rich is more difficult than ordinary people, but it doesn’t mean we are afraid of being sued.
“However in order for the justice system to not fail people must allow time to gather information and later inform the media,” he added.
