Tuk-tuk procession goes across the city to protest against Apec, Prayut

THALU FAH activist group launched a tuk-tuk procession at 4 p.m. today (Nov. 15) to go across Bangkok in protest against the 29th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit starting tomorrow and ending on Saturday Oct. 19 and Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, Matichon newspaper said.

Around 20 tuk-tuks joined the procession that began at the Democracy Monument, where a large Apec signage had been installed in the middle, and was to end at Victory Monument.

At the back of the three-wheelers were installed large signs carrying at least five protest messages including “Chase out Prayut, stop monopoly,” “Stop treason and return power to the people,” “Prayut get out, stop monopoly,” “Stop greenwashing” and “People stop Apec 2022.”

Demonstrators also brought some placards with “Prayut get out” written on them. Ms. Worawan  Sae-ang, or Aunt Pao, also joined this protest.

From Democracy Monument the procession was to go across Pinklao bridge to Bang Phlat  Intersection before turning right to Tha Phra intersection, then going straight to Wongwian Yai . It will then pass Icon Siam, cross Taksin bridge and go down Sathorn road to Sam Yan then head for Pathumwan intersection, go past  Bangkok Art and Culture Centre and end up at Victory Monument.

Mr. Thanaphat Kapheng, or Pun Thalu Fah, said his group is trying to expose the disadvantages of this summit to the public who will at least see the “Stop Apec” signs. This will prompt them to search for information and they will then find out that there is a hidden agenda at this Apec summit with regulations to be amended for the benefit of capitalists.

He claimed that in allowing companies or agencies to grow it would lead to capitalists going to the provinces which in turn would prevent people there from prospering or not fully so.

This would only benefit capitalists with people’s viewpoints not being heeded, he added.
