PRIME Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha today (Feb. 13) urged the public, particularly teenagers, to stay home on Valentine’s Day tomorrow and express their love online because the Covid pandemic is still raging, Amarin TV said this afternoon.
Mr. Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office, said Gen. Prayut had asked all sectors to join together and promote Valentine’s Day safety under the campaign “How to love and not catch Covid.”
With Covid pandemic continuing worldwide and it being uncertain when the situation will return to normal, people have been urged to adapt to the New Normal and express their love from a distance and reduce outings.
Those who have to go out tomorrow were urged to take precaution against catching coronavirus, such as maintaining social distance, he said, stressing teenagers should do so safely and property by sending gifts and expressing their love via video calls.
Meanwhile the Public Health Ministry earlier said there were 15,882 Covid cases and 24 deaths today with this taking the cumulative confirmed total since Jan. 1 to 369,892, Amarin TV and Naewna newspaper said.
Another 9,482 patients were cured taking total recoveries since the beginning of the year to 277,528 while 124,869 are still undergoing treatment.
Today’s 24 fatalities took the total death toll since the start of the pandemic to 22,436.
Bangkok continued to top the list of 10 worst-hit provinces today with 2,920 cases, down slightly from yesterday’s tally of 3,233 .
The number of cases also increased in Nakhon Pathom, Nakhon Ratchasima, Ratchaburi and Nakhon Si Thammarat provinces with Mae Hong Son logging the least total at just eight cases.
Altogether 46 provinces had over a hundred cases today with this being more than half the country.
