A WEAK earthquake measuring 2.4 on the Richter scale occurred in Chiang Rai province at 1.39 p.m. today (Aug. 31) while a moderate one of 4.1 magnitude hit Myanmar at 6 p.m. Thai time, the Earthquake Observation Division of the Thai Meteorological Department and Volcanodiscovery.com said.
The weak quake in Chiang Rai took place in Doi Lan subdistrict of Mueang Chiang Rai district at a depth of three kilometres. There was no report of damage.
The moderate one in Myanmar occurred at Katha district, Sagaing region, 203 kilometres southwest of Myitkyina at a depth of 10 kilometres.
