10kg heroin washes up on Khao Lak beach

 

EMPLOYEES of a hotel at the famed Khao Lak tourist destination in southern coastal Phang Nga province today (May 27) found a suspicious box that had washed up on the beach and immediately called the police, Amarin TV said.

When the police team got to the beach they found that the box was lying at a zone where sea waves could reach. It was wrapped in green plastic and bound together with yellow masking tape. Within was found 20 packages wrapped in aluminum foil containing powder which was later confirmed to be heroin. weighing 10 kilogrammes.

Pol Col Jirawat Sararam, head of Khao Lak police station, said preliminary investigation showed that over the past four to five years there has been no information of the presence of narcotics on the Andaman coast.

The heroin found today is similar to what has previously been found on Koh Samui and further investigation is being carried out.
