THE Governor of Kalasin province today (Oct. 13) ordered an investigation into the death of a three-year-old boy after his father and doctors raised suspicions that it was unlikely he fell off his bed and then slipped in the bathroom as relatives claimed, Thai Rath newspaper reported.
The boy, A (fictitious name), three years and five months old, died at 8 p.m. on Saturday October 10. His body was checked by doctors at Kalasin Hospital who said injuries indicate that he might not have fallen off his bed and then after that slipped in the bathroom and died as his relatives claimed.
The boy had a swollen forehead, black eyes and his left elbow had come apart. All this made doctors suspicious that he might have died after being physically abused.
Kalasin Governor Songphol Chaiklerm said the boy’s body had been sent to Srinakarin Hospital in Khon Kaen province for a detailed autopsy.
He has also ordered the provincial Office of Social Development and Human Security to hold a meeting with prosecutors, police and other units on expediting the investigation into this case and determining whether or not the boy fell off his bed and then slipped in the bathroom and died.
Songphol added that the cause of death must be clear, if the boy appeared to have died after falling and slipping then it would be an accident. But if he died after being abused then the strongest legal action must be taken.
