INTERIOR MINISTER ANUTIN Charnvirakul confirmed today ( Nov.7) all entertainment venues in Bangkok and a few major tourist provinces will be legally allowed to provide alcoholic beverages to their customers until 4 a.m.
Anutin admitted that he had been earlier confused over whether these entertainment places can still provide alcoholic beverages after midnight though they may be legally allowed to open until 4 a.m. since the government has been looking to promote tourism in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chonburi and Phuket, all being primarily viewed as the country’s major tourist spots.
The interior minister has now officially confirmed that these places can provide alcoholic beverages to their customers until the closing hour which will be extended to 4 a.m. as of Dec.15.
However, the authorities will see to it that the planned extension in the opening hours will by no means adversely affect the entertainment venues’ surrounding neighbourhoods whilst measures against their customers’ driving under the influence of alcohol will also be stepped up, he said.
Such leniency for entertainment places in all other provinces to follow suit of the capital and three major tourist cities may be given at a later date which may not be abreast with the country’s high tourist season around the latter part of this year and the early part of next year whilst public hearings on the issue are yet to be conducted with local people’s views being taken into account prior to an official permission for any of them to open until 4 a.m., according to the interior minister.
