POLICE in northern Lampang province are hunting for a 50-year-old woman who shot dead her former husband’s new girlfriend and also injured him at their home before driving off, Thai Rath newspaper reported.
Pol. Capt. Phasaworn Bunthiam, deputy inspector for investigation at Mueang Lampang station, rushed to the victims’ shophouse after being alerted of the shooting at 6.45 a.m. yesterday (Oct. 12).
Upon arrival he found Mr. Suchart Rhirun, 52, shot in the left leg in front of the shophouse while his new girlfriend, Ms. Phanthira Kattisiri, 42, lay dead in a pool of blood nearby after being shot twice, once each in the chest and stomach, with both hit with shots fired from a .380 pistol.
He also found three shells and a bullet around them.
The suspect is Ms. Niranuch Okwang, 50, also a resident of this northern province who has been divorced from Suchart for some time now.
Police found out that after the shooting Niranuch drove off in a white Suzuki sedan before switching to a Toyota sedan and then headed for Ngao district. She could not be reached as she had switched off her mobile phone.
They also discovered that the divorced couple were quarrelling frequently because Suchart had stopped paying 2,000 baht a week child support for their 16-year-old daughter.
On the morning of the shooting the suspect had also ran into her ex-husband’s new girlfriend.
The divorced couple’s daughter told police that her mother had stopped by and hugged her as she told her to take care of herself.
