Army crushes widespread rumours of a coup

ARMY SPOKESMAN Colonel Winthai Suwari this afternoon (Sept. 8) categorically denied rumours that the current transfer of military equipment is in preparation to mount a coup d’etat, INN News and Sanook.com reported.

He explained that the annual training of army units is presently underway and this is what spurred coup rumours. The army has in fact regularly publicized when training and transport of equipment takes place.

Regarding the observation that there are more training sessions than usual this year, Col. Winthai mentioned that army training usually takes place from March onward but this year, because of the Covid-19 pandemic, it got postponed to the current period.

He also said that unit-level training is still essential but the size has decreased this year in keeping with the coronavirus outbreak.

Military equipment is also being moved by train as usually done, he added.
