THE rush hour traffic on Rama 3 bridge worsened this morning (Sept. 8) after police shut one inbound lane at 8.30 a.m. to rescue a man who had climbed up the sign post and was getting ready to jump into the river, Khaosod newspaper reported.
Pak Klong San police rushed to the scene, and after shutting one traffic lane, tried to convince the distressed man to come down.
Police later brought in a truck basket lift to go up and be closer to him but when he saw the apparatus, his attitude changed, and he was about to jump down so they did not use it.
They had also called for a rescue boat to save him should he really jump down.
However at 9.07 a.m. the distressed man seemed to have calmed down and appeared ready to negotiate after accepting a bottle of water from the policemen who had gone up to talk to him.
It was at 10.30 a.m. that the policemen managed to persuade the suicidal man to climb down to the bridge below.
