DEPUTY Prime Minister/Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul refused to comment on several embassies having issued a warning to their citizens to be careful of possible reprisal attacks after Thailand deported at least 40 Uyghurs back to China on Thursday (Feb. 27), Thai Rath newspaper said this evening (March 1).
He clarified that he did not give suggestions on this action nor was he asked for his opinion with this issue being handled by the Defence and Foreign ministries so he could not comment.
However, regarding the safety and convenience of tourists the Interior Ministry has told the governor and local administrators of every province that they must ensure people in their jurisdiction comply with the law.
The ministry’s permanent secretary issues radio and written orders several times a week and additional orders are issued if need be.
Maintaining peace and order in the country and enforcing the law are things that must be done anyway. If they are ordered to strictly enforce the law it means they are lax, which is not the case, he added.
Anutin, who is the leader of the Bhumjaithai, the second largest coalition partner under de facto party boss Newin Chidchob, also focused on Pai district of northern Mae Hong Son province which he and Israeli Ambassador Orna Sagiv visited last Wednesday (Feb. 26) to resolve misunderstanding after news spread that Israelis have settled there and are causing chaos.
It was a waste of time and cost of airfare to go there because upon arrival there was no problem with both tourists and locals satisfied with the way things were running, he said.
However he did organize tourism there because Pai is a cultural tourism town with emphasis on peaceful stay and not noisily having fun thus destroying the peace.
