A FEW MORE Bhumjaithai members of cabinet have finally emerged among a total of 229 suspects in the 2024 senatorial rigging conspiracy in addition to Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and de facto Bhumjaithai boss Newin Chidchob.
The now-unveiled suspects among the Bhumjaithai rank and file allegedly involved in the vote-buying, electoral rigging conspiracy over the complicated, triple-tiered senatorial races include Tourism & Sports Minister Surasak Pancharoenworakul, Deputy Transport Minister Patrapong Patraprasit, Prime Minister’s Office Minister Supamas Isarapakdee and the prime minister’s secretary Traisulee Traisaranakul whilst the other Bhumjaithai ministers-turned-suspects who have been earlier publicly accused of involvement in the senatorial rigging conspiracy include Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Transport Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, Deputy Prime Minister Songsak Thongsri, Prime Minister’s Office Ministers Paradorn Prisnanuntakul, Suksamruay Wantaneeyakui and Napinthorn Srisanpang, plus chief government whip Koravee Prisnanuntakul and former deputy House speaker Supachai Bhosu.
Former election commissioner Somchai Srisutthiyakorn remarked that Newin’s largest ruling camp could possibly be dissolved by court if those Bhumjaithai suspects were finally found guilty of involvement in the premeditated vote-buying, bloc-vote rigging shenanigans which landed as many as 138 of the total 200 senators disputable “victories” and led to the time-consuming investigation by a now-defunct subcommittee of the Election Commission.
It remains to be seen next Monday whether the polling agency may file a lawsuit on the basis of the investigation reports to the Supreme Court against those Bhumjaithai partisan figures including the de facto party boss and party leader as well as the allegedly Bhumjaithai-made senators among the total 229 suspects.
If a lawsuit was formally accepted for consideration by the Supreme Court judges in charge of lawsuits related to elections, the Bhumjaithai prime minister and all partisan colleagues in his cabinet would be immediately suspended by court from doing their executive duties pending a court ruling.
The fact-finding subcommittee of the polling agency had reportedly advised that Newin’s camp be subject to dissolution by court due to such severe, unethical wrongdoings but another subcommittee set up at a later date by the commissioners had questionably come out with an opposite conclusion to the extent that the allegations originally launched against all the 229 suspects including 91 Bhumjaithai-attached politicians and 138 allegedly-Bhumjaithai-made senators be totally lifted.
Nevertheless, government critics and academics have raised concern over the probability that the commissioners might resolutely decline to forward a single case to the Supreme Court against Newin or Anutin or any Bhumjaithai partisan figures whilst some of the suspected senators could possibly be charged of involvement in the despicable, illegitimate conspiracy.
The commissioners, four of whom had been handpicked by an overwhelming majority of the current senators, would be more or less inclined to keep all suspected Bhumjaithai figures intact from any relevant charges in court.
