THE Thai army today (June 29) clarified that a curfew has not been declared at Ban Nong Chan village in Sa Kaeo province, next to Cambodia, but night entry along border markers 46-47 banned to prevent outsiders from infiltrating and filming the area, starting a fight, bringing in weapons or weapon-like objects and carrying out other actions that may affect national security, Amarin TV said.
The restriction followed the signing of an urgent announcement by Col. Nattawut Somprom, commander of the Khok Sung Task Force, immediately prohibiting public entry into the area occupied by soldiers along border markers 46-47, east of Sriphen road in Ban Nong Chan village, with two strict measures imposed as follows:
– No civilians are allowed to enter the area under any circumstances from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day;
– Only villagers with farmland are permitted to enter and cultivate crops from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.. Villagers must carry their national identification cards for verification and register with officials each time.
Maj. Gen. Winthai Suwaree, the army spokesperson, confirmed that this announcement is not an imposition of a curfew prohibiting people from leaving their homes, but rather a regulation prohibiting entry to the military-controlled area around border markers 46-47 on the eastern side.
