A LIFEGUARD at Patong Beach in Phuket rushed to save a naked foreign woman who after assaulting a massage parlour employee ran to the beach, grabbed a red warning flag and plunged into the rough seas, Amarin TV said today (June 10).
A Facebook user named Sarid Pongpaew posted a video of the dramatic incident at Patong beach with the caption:
“A heart-stopping, unscripted moment! A foreign woman grabbed a red flag and ran into the sea. Luckily, a lifeguard at Patong beach rescued her. Thank you!”
The lifeguard on duty at Patong beach who saw the danger the female tourist was in braved strong waves and currents and got her out of the sea.
However, moments later the naked woman ran to the rocks on the beach, prompting the lifeguard to chase her closely, then ran back into the sea, and was rescued again.
He then called police to come and investigate and calm her down and question her about her erratic behaviour.
A reporter contacted Mr. Warakorn Maneesri, an eyewitness, who stated that the foreign national may have been involved in a similar incident elsewhere beforehand, but he did not know the details. He only witnessed the event while driving past. The foreign woman was found to be in a state of frenzy and had removed her clothing.
Pol. Sgt. Sayam Intarat, from the crime prevention and suppression unit at Choeng Thale police station, said upon checking the foreign woman’s documents he only found a driver’s licence, indicating she was a citizen of the United Kingdom.
He had also at 9 p.m. received a report from a massage parlour employee, approximately 25 years old, who said she was assaulted by a foreign woman and acted in self-defence.
Preliminary investigation suggests the perpetrator may have consumed marijuana beforehand, as a container of marijuana was found in her luggage.
During the incident, Pol. Sgt. Sayam asked people nearby to temporarily restrain the naked woman with a cloth while he waited for another patrol team to arrive. She was incoherent and refused to provide any information when asked about her whereabouts or if she needed any assistance.
It was later learned that the woman’s sister was getting her hair done at a salon in the Laguna area. Police then contacted her to pick her up at the police station. “Upon arrival and speaking with the sister, the perpetrator calmed down. The sister confirmed that she was capable of taking care of the woman and would take her to her accommodation,” Pol. Sgt. Sayyam said.
“Afterward, the perpetrator, her sister, and the massage parlour discussed and reached an understanding. The massage parlour did not wish to press charges, so both parties parted ways, and the perpetrator took a taxi back to her accommodation.”
Pol. Lt. Col. Thongchai Matitham, deputy superintendent (investigation) at Choeng Thale police station, stated that the incident did indeed occur. Officers brought the foreign national to the police station to calm down and de-escalate the situation. However, to date, no victim has filed a report.
