THE Foreign Affairs Ministry today (April 3) announced that human remains had been found aboard Thai cargo ship Mayuree Naree that was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz on March 11 with three crew members missing since then while 20 were rescued but identification is not yet possible, TV Channel 7 said.

Precious Shipping Plc, the owner of the ship with a displacement of approximately 30,000 tons, told the ministry that the company had hired a search and rescue team to board the vessel and look for the three crew members. On the second search they found human remains in a damaged area after thoroughly examining all accessible zones of the fire-damaged ship with the engine room and its vicinity also flooded.

While identification is not yet possible, the company has informed the families of the missing crew members of this development.

In expressing condolences, the ministry said it will coordinate closely with relevant Thai embassies, the Iranian side, and agencies in charge of this issue to obtain confirmation of the identities as soon as possible.

The ministry also urged all parties involved in the conflict to return to negotiation and diplomatic process as soon as possible to resolve the tense situation in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter, prioritising the safety of civilians and the passage of goods through the Strait of Hormuz.
