THAI Foreign Affairs Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow has set up a war room to deal with tensions arising from US and Israel’s attack on Iran and has urged Thais in both countries to evacuate risky areas immediately, Naewna newspaper said this evening (Feb. 28).
As the conflict could escalate and potentially affect the well-being of Thais residing across the Middle East, Sihasak has taken the following steps:
1/ The ministry is continuously contacting all Thai embassies in the Middle East to monitor and assess the situation and inform Thais who are out there of the latest development. Embassies in Tel Aviv and Tehran have issued warnings and given advice right from the start of the conflict and have opened hotlines for Thais to call for help and assistance.
2/ Thais residing in risky areas are advised to evacuate immediately, especially those in Iran and Israel. Thais who do not have to urgently travel to this region are advised to reconsider their travel plans.
3/ The ministry has established a Situation Monitoring Centre (war room) to closely monitor and assess the situation in collaboration with various agencies, including Thai embassies in the region. All Thai embassies in the region have prepared necessary assistance for Thai citizens in the affected zones, including evacuation plans, should this be necessary. A 24-hour Consular Affairs Department call centre has also been set up for urgent assistance Tel: 0-2572-8442.
4/The ministry is coordinating with relevant embassies in Thailand to provide full protection for Thai citizens in the affected zones. It will also coordinate with Thai associations in various countries to stay informed of the situation in each area and provide necessary assistance.
