Police hunting for 3 robbers who stole 2m baht from British chef

A BIG hunt is underway for three robbers, likely foreigners, who broke into a British chef’s townhouse in Nong Prue area of Chonburi and stole a safe holding 2 million baht in cash last night (Feb. 26), Naewna newspaper and Amarin tv said today.

Pol. Col. Natthapol Phongsookskul, superintendent of Nong Prue police station, quickly sent a team of investigators to the two-storey townhouse at Chokchai Village, Nong Prue subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi, upon being informed of the robbery.

At the scene they found Mr. Wesleigh, 32, a British chef, and his wife Ms. Chandee, 34, in a state of shock. They related that they were relaxing at their home with two British friends when three large, burly men, believed to be foreigners, who were wearing black clothes and balaclavas burst in.

They held the men at knifepoint and demanded money before locking everyone in the kitchen.

After grabbing their iPhone 16 and iPhone 14 mobile phones, they went upstairs and together lifted the safe containing over 2 million baht in cash which the couple had withdrawn to purchase a house in Thailand and calmly carried it downstairs and loaded it onto a black pickup truck parked in front of the townhouse and drove away.

Pol. Col. Natthapol ordered all police stations to send out radio alerts for the black pickup truck as seen in a surveillance camera clip, but no trace has been found so far.

However, Pol. Lt. Col. Thana Wisetchai, deputy superintendent for investigation at this police station, is holding a meeting with his team to summarise information gathered from various sources and will be holding another meeting with provincial investigation officers, Pattaya Tourist Police and Chonburi Immigration Police, to expedite the investigation and arrest the perpetrators.

Initial investigation suggests the perpetrators may have planned the crime in advance and were aware of the victims’ movements, specifically that they had withdrawn a large amount of cash to buy property and stored it at home.
