A DRAMATIC bank robbery took place in Samut Prakan this afternoon (Feb. 16) with a lone robber walking into a bank at a popular shopping mall and doused the manager with petrol then demanded 5 million baht in cash or else he would set her alight but she managed to free herself while a brave employee and bystanders then apprehended him, TV Channel 7 said.
At around 4.30 p.m. the robber entered the shopping mall carrying a bottle of what appeared to be water and entered the bank. He then doused the manager with petrol and demanded 5 million baht in cash or else he would set her on fire.
However the quick-witted manager managed to break free by twisting and turning thus wriggling out her jacket and escaping.
A plucky female employee quickly jumped in and punched the robber with a delivery rider and other bystanders then joining in and subdued the robber and handed him to the police with swollen face.
The suspect, identified Mr. Sutthidol (surname withheld), 49, confessed to driving from his home in Chonburi to Bang Phli district with a bottle of petrol intending to rob a bank because he was unemployed but was ultimately apprehended.
