French tourist nabbed after dropping drug at Phuket Airport

 

A FRENCH national holidaying in Phuket was arrested after dropping 10 small bags cocaine at the southern island’s airport with more drugs found at his hotel room, Amarin TV said today (Feb. 6).

Pol. Lt. Col. Chamnan Inthanon, head of investigation at Sakhu police station, was alerted by Phuket Airport’s security personnel that 10 small bags of cocaine, totalling 7.55 gramme, fell on the floor of the domestic departure terminal from the pants pocket of Mr. Najib Aftat, 46, a French national.

A police team then went to the airport and reviewed a surveillance camera clip showing the drug falling out of the suspect’s pants pocket. Upon being questioned he confessed that the drug belonged to him and that there was more at his hotel room in Mueang district and led the officers there.

Within the hotel room were found 13 bags of pink Ecstasy powder (Type 1 narcotic),  weighing a total of 6.79 grammes, and nine bags of pink Ecstasy tablets, totalling 44.

He was charged with possessing and selling cocaine (Type 2 narcotic) and Ecstasy as well as illegally consuming Methamphetamine (Type 1 narcotic) and Ketamine (Type 2 narcotic).
