A FISHING boat carrying 13 Thai tourists capsized near Koh Maravichai off Pattaya with four having swum ashore while an urgent search and rescue operation is underway to find the others, PPTVHD36 said this evening (Nov. 21).
Chonburi Maritime Security Centre received an urgent message from Marine Disaster Relief Line group and 1445 hotline at 1.33 p.m. that this boat capsized at around 9 a.m. after being hit by strong waves with its water pump too malfunctioning.
Four passengers, including one girl, were able to swim to shore, while the others remained floating at sea, including two boys. They are at great risk as the boat lacked life jackets and they do not know how to swim,
An investigation revealed that this group of 13 Thai tourists had chartered the fishing boat at Bali Hai Pier at 7.00 a.m. and were later thrown into the sea after big waves slammed the vessel causing it to capsize.
A rescue operation is ongoing in the sea off Pattaya amid high waves and strong winds with officials having requested all boats in the vicinity to immediately inform the Marine Department at 1445 hotline if they see people floating in the sea or something unusual.
