Ghostly sounds won’t put Thailand at a disadvantage on world stage: PM

PRIME MINISTER-cum-Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said today (Oct. 13) that he has yet to listen to the sounds of ghosts and fighter jets flying played in the dead of the night at Ban Nong Chan village by a social media influencer to drive out encroaching Khmer villagers but believes it will not put Thailand at a disadvantage on the world stage, PPTVHD 36 said today (Oct. 13).

Anutin also said that he has replied to US President Donald Trump’s expressed intention to mediate an end to the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia.

After Mr. Guntouch Pongpaiboonwet, or Gun Jompalang, took a sound system to the border to play the creepy soundtracks on Friday night and before dawn on Saturday Cambodia sent a letter to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights that between 10.44 p.m. and 12.04 a.m. , loudspeakers emitted noises described as “haunting sounds reminiscent of wailing ghosts.”  This was followed by persistent aircraft engine noises from 3.22 a.m. to 3.53 a.m. deliberately targeting nearby Cambodian villagers with the intention of disturbing and intimidating them.

Anutin insisted that everything must be done in accordance with the law, both Thai and international, and he believes the incident of playing creepy sounds will not put Thailand at a disadvantage on the world stage as the country is upholding its sovereignty.

He added that he had delegated full authority to the military, while diplomatic negotiations were the responsibility of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Yesterday, Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkaew travelled to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he met with Cambodian and Malaysian officials. He will return today.

Both sides have received government authorisation and support to fully implement measures.

Meanwhile the Army Military Force Facebook page released a video clip showing a Cambodian man retaliating against Gun Jompalang for playing eerie sounds to drive out them out from Thai territory by holding a cursing ceremony with his photo placed in a bowl of rice flanked by lit candles while he chants in their language, Naewna newspaper said.
