Thai man drinks toilet cleaner after Cambodians slapped a big fine

A THAI man drank some toilet cleaner to spite Cambodian officials at Poipet checkpoint, opposite Aranyaprathet town, last evening (July 11) after he was told to pay 10,000 baht fine but did not have any money to do so, TV Channel 7 said today.

As the Thai man, identified as Mr. Thanawan, 40, then fell into a coma, Cambodian officials had to send him across to the Thai side so that he could immediately get his stomach pumped at Aranyaprathet Hospital.

Aranyaprathet Rescue Foundation was contacted by Thai-Cambodian border coordinators to come and pick up Thanawan from the middle of the Thai-Cambodian Friendship Bridge and rush him to the hospital.

Officials said Thanawan, who is from Pathum Thani, had all the travel documents but as he had been staying in Cambodia for a year he had to pay a 10,000 baht fine but did not have the money to do so.

He then walked to the Poipet Immigration Checkpoint bathroom and gulped down some toilet cleaner which then led to him being allowed to return to Thailand on humanitarian grounds.

He is currently undergoing treatment at Aranyaprathet Hospital.
