Cyber Police zeroing in on Hun Sen over leaked phone call

THAI police will be submitting a case to the Attorney-General’s Office on Monday (July 14) to consider filing a lawsuit against Cambodian leader Hun Sen for threatening Thailand’s national security by releasing an audio clip of a phone call with suspended prime minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra last month, Amarin TV said today (July 10).

Mr. Somkid Cheukong, secretary-general to the Prime Minister for Political Affairs, had filed a complaint against Hun Sen on June 20 for releasing the audio clip of his phone conversation with Paetongtarn.

This led to the Constitutional Court ordering her to immediately stop running the country as head of government pending a court verdict on the basis of allegations that she has perpetrated a severe breach of the ethical code whilst handling Thai-Cambodian border conflict. Upon stepping down she took charge of the culture portfolio.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Siriwat Deephor, commander of Technology Crime Suppression (Cyber Police) Division 1, said his team has  finished collecting evidence and Hun Sen is being slapped with charges of committing an extraterritorial offense under Section 116 of the Criminal Code, on the grounds of committing an act that is a threat to Thailand’s national security, as well as violating the Computer Crimes Act.

“After this, it will be the duty of the Attorney General to consider the case and decide whether to press charges or not. If it is considered that there are grounds (to these charges), an arrest warrant will be issued and Interpol will be contacted to issue a Red Notice,” he said.
