Police deny threatening small child giving Hunger Games salute

THAI POLICE denied any of their officers nor those from security agencies had threatened a six-year-old kindergarten child whose photo of giving the three-finger Hunger Games movie salute had spread online, Naewna newspaper said today (August 24, 2020).

Deputy police spokesman Pol. Col. Krisana Pattanacharoen said Yasothon province police had reported to the police headquarters that none of their officers paid the child’s parents a visit but a team of professionals from a local agency together with the class teacher did do so.

The parents explained that they only shared this photo with family members and did not think it would spread widely in social media triggering criticism.

This team explained to the parents that they have to protect children’s rights when sharing their images online as they are protected by Child Protection Act 2003. The parents acknowledged these facts and said they would comply by the law.
